What is open in Venice in March 2021
What you need to know about the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic in Venice and the Veneto region and the national and local rules for residents, travellers and visitors in March 2021
As you're probably aware, Venice and the Veneto region are qualified as "red zone" in Italy from the 15th March 2021 to the 29th March 2021. The Italian government reviews the medical data concerning the covid-19 pandemic every 15 days, and according to the updated infection rate, intensive care occupancy and death rate they assign the related color to each region. There are 4 colours possible: white (absolutely low risk), yellow (low risk), orange (high risk) and red (very high risk).
At the end of the 2nd week, on Fridays, all data are reviewed, which means that on the 26th of March the Italian government will update the color to assign to each region for the following 2 weeks.
Besides, national restrictions will be in place from the 2nd to the 6th of April, when all Italy will adopt red region measurements reagardless of their actual color. Moreover, a local hotspot in a yellow region could be classified as red even if the rest of the region is yellow or orange.
What is open in the yellow regions? Bars and restaurants until 6pm (limited to take-away after that hour), museums on working days, all shops. It's possible to travel within the region without certificate.
What is open in the orange regions? All shops. Bars and restaurants can only provide take-away service, museums are closed. It's possible to move within each town limits without certificate.
What is open in the red regions? Only essential shops (including groceries, optical, pharmacies, flowers, stationeries). It's possible to exit home for justified reason, carrying a self-certificate.
Churches are always open and there's a curfew from 10pm to 5am.
What about the vaccines? After EMA authorised Astra Zeneca vaccination again, the campaign is proceeding. In the Veneto region, so far 583.823 doses have been given, i.e. 74,4% of the provided doses (source: https://www.governo.it/it/cscovid19/report-vaccini/). Up to now medical, military staff as been vaccinated, as well as all residents and workers in residences for the elderly; over 80ies, teachers and school staff are in progress.
