How to attend the Redentore night on 17th July 2021 in Venice
After a year without fireworks, Venice is preparing to celebrate again one of its most popular and beloved festivities: the Redentore!
Venice has been celebrating the Redentore since 1577, when the beautiful basilica by Palladio was built on the Giudecca island to honour the end of a pestilence: in this occasion, a temporary pontoon bridge is made up in order to cross the Giudecca canal and reach the church on foot. Beautiful fireworks on the water at midnight complete the celebration, it's a wonderful, local, convivial feast where it's a pleasure to share home-made food with friends while waiting for the fireworks.
Last year the Redentore was exceptionnally cancelled due to the Covid pandemic, but this year Venice Municipality organised the event in order to comply to the sanitary and safety rules: it's possible to attend either by private boat or for pedestrians, along the Giudecca, Zattere and Riva degli Schiavoni quays; in both cases pre-reservation and registration is mandatory and you can book here from the 15th of July. Also, in order to get a place you will need to show your Green Covid Pass or show a negative Covid-test result (rapid test points will be set up on the Giudecca island and in San Marco).
Here is the program of the event:
