How to choose the best season to visit Venice

When asked what is the best time of year to visit Venice, most people would answer May or June. It's a reasonable answer: the climate is mild but not too hot yet, days are longer... it's the reason why the shoulder seasons are usually considered high season in art cities. This means that also September and October, in Venice, are part of the high season!

The traditional marking of the rental seasons in Venice has been as follows: January, February and March is low season, April, May and June are top season, July and August mid-season, September and October high season again, then again low season in November and December, excluding Christmas holidays and New Year's Eve.

Climate change and mass tourism, though, could let you think about which could actually be, after all, the best time to plan your stay in Venice: May is surely one of the best months, in terms of climate, but it's usually packed with people, every day of the month. The same principle would apply to September.

Besides, winters are getting milder year by year and the average temperatures are slowly rising: why not considering a stay in Venice in January? The sunlight is just glorious, streets are quiet and usually prices are lower. If you think that January is still too harsh, November, in the recent years, has been a kind of end of Indian Summer.
